Book review: Brilliant Business Writing by Neil Taylor

books

Title: Brilliant Business Writing (2nd Edition)
Author: Neil Taylor
ISBN: 9780273744580

Brilliant Business Writing (2nd Edition, Neil Taylor, Pearson Books, 2011) is absolutely jam-packed with straightforward, realistic and unpretentious advice. It is an easy read that is well structured and written in an un-patronising and uncomplicated tone. Don’t be put off by expecting a 150 page lecture on spelling, grammar and punctuation, either – this book is a fantastic and informal tool for anyone whose job role involves writing of any kind – and that’s pretty much all of us at one stage or another! Whether it’s writing email, letters, reports or marketing copy – everyone will be able to take at least one top tip away from this book, that will improve their business writing skills.

Don’t get me wrong -this book cannot teach you how to write – and you will still need to know your own subject matter inside out before you can even get started – but as it says on the cover, Brilliant Business Writing is designed to teach you how to ‘inspire, engage and persuade’ through the medium of the written word. From adopting the correct tone for your audience (and your business) to dropping those extra adjectives that are so frequently used to pad out something that could be kept simple – Brilliant Business Writing is all about crushing the idiosyncrasies and all of those stereotypical rules that we are taught to use in a good piece of writing.

I would definitely recommend this book – Five Stars!!
