Community feature: Introducing…

pp_default1

In a new feature, we’re taking a closer look at the working lives of some of HR Zone’s 17,000 membership. This week, Jacqui Mann, HR Manager for Integra NeuroSciences, gives us an insight into her professional career to date.

What’s your current job role? HR Manager.

What did you do before this job? HR Advisor.

Describe your route into HR I Worked in a large company as a secretary, and helped out in HR when they needed support. When a vacancy arose I applied. They sponsored my CPP and IPD.

Did you always want to work in HR? Yes.

What would you say has been the most significant event in your career to date? Passing my IPD and then being given the opportunity to take up my current role where my specialist advice is asked for by fellow managers, staff and the MD.

How do you think the role of HR has changed since you began your HR career? It is no longer seen as the welfare department. My company recognises the importance of HR and I am on the Senior Management team.

What single thing would improve your working life? More resources.

What’s your favourite part of the HR Zone site? The Document Centre.

Have you made contact with any other members? A few.

Do you have any advice for those looking to embark on a career in HR? It is a great career and very varied. You can be a generalist or later on you can specialise. Make sure you get professional qualifications, its hard work but the benefits will pay off later.

If you’re willing to share your experiences of working in HR to date with other members, we’d like to hear from you – e-mail us to receive a copy of this questionnaire.
