In a brand new feature starting this week, we’ll be taking a closer look at the working lives of some of HR Zone’s 17,000 membership. This week, Iain Young, Head of HR for Cofathec Heatsave gives us an insight into his professional career to date.
What’s your current job role? Head of HR (HR Manager) for Cofathec Heatsave (Service Arm of French Gas).
What did you do before this job? HR Project Manager for Linklaters and Alliance (City Law Firm) responsible for the selection and installation of a global HR System.
Describe your route into HR. Started Personnel within the Army (Army Air Corps) then joined Marconi Defence Systems on leaving the Forces.
Did you always want to work in HR? Yes for my second career after 10 ½ years in the Forces.
What would you say has been the most significant event in your career to date? I have been very lucky in my career to date and have had numerous opportunities and experiences so it would be difficult to select any one significant event.
How do you think the role of HR has changed since you began your HR career? In many organisations HR is finally being accepted as an integral part of the business and not just an overhead we must have for legal reasons.
What single thing would improve your working life? Fully integrated real time HR, Payroll and Time Recording Systems.
