Five minutes with… Doug Shaw

pp_default1

On HRzone.co.uk we want to get up close and personal for five minutes with a member each month. Doug Shaw is an active blogger and songwriter on site and has in the past been voted blogger of the month. So, take a community coffee break and find out something you didn’t know about this month’s member.

  • What’s most played on your iPod/other MP3 player at the moment?

I tend to just hit the shuffle button and hope for the best. The last three tracks were: Sunshine on Leith – Proclaimers. All The Young Punks – Clash. Folsom Prison Blues – Johnny Cash. The Clash and Johnny Cash are both huge musical influences for me and I find the Proclaimers tune uplifting.

  • If you could be somebody else for a day, who would you be and why?

Who? Well how about Joe Strummer on Monday 18 February 1980. That night The Clash played to a packed and very lively Lewisham Odeon on the 16 Tons Tour. The gig was recorded and parts of it were subsequently released on DVD and CD (those were the days!). Why? Why not!

  • What item could you not live without?

A notepad and pen. I know, that’s two items but hey – one’s not much use without the other!

  • Name one person you would you love to get a Twitter reply from:

I’d love to get a tweet from my Mum. She passed away in 1984 and I’m sure they have Twitter on the other side. I’d love to know what she’s thinking about right now.

  • What would your one desert island luxury be?

A telephone. I don’t do alone very well so at least this way I could phone folk up for a natter.

  • What invention do you wish you’d thought of?

The bicycle. A transport revolution, a toy, a way to compete, a way to get to work, to the shops, to anywhere. Cycling is such useful fun.

  • What would your greatest wish for mankind be?

Have more conversations. Ask good questions, listen well and please, act on what people tell you. People will give you lots of reasons why you shouldn’t. I prefer to encourage folk to proceed until apprehended!
