Both the Department for Work and Pensions and the Department for Education and Skills have seen personnel changes as a result of the Government reshuffle announced last Wednesday.
At the Department for Education and Skills, Minister for Skills and Lifelong Learning John Healey departs for the Treasury and is replaced by Stephen Twigg, previously Deputy Leader of the Commons. After just one year as an MP, David Miliband has been appointed to the post of Minister of State in charge of schools, replacing Stephen Timms, who had held the position since the Department was created last June.
Over at the Department for Work and Pensions, Andrew Smith has replaced Alistair Darling as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, moving over from the Treasury. Andrew Smith previously had responsibility for Employment, Equal Opportunities and Welfare to Work at the former Department for Education and Employment and will resume the responsibility he had previously for the New Deal programme.
