HR tip: Employee relocation too far away

pp_default1

These questions are being answered by Learn HR, a market leader in the provision of HR and payroll training and nationally-recognised professional qualifications.

Question:
"An employee is relocating his home from our town to a village 20 miles away. We feel that this is too far away. How do we stand?"

HR tip:
You may take direct action only if the employee is required to be on call at home to come to your site quickly in an emergency. Otherwise, by all means express your concerns to the employee, but you should take action only if the long journey results in lateness or if the employee's performance deteriorates presumably because of travel tiredness.
