Question:
"What is the fairest method of selecting employees for redundancy?"
HR tip:
By assessing each employee affected in some objective way against the needs of the business. I suggest that you identify the important factors such as skill, flexibility, conduct, and weight each one in relation to each other. Then mark each employee against each factor in turn. The assessment should be made by at least two people, one of whom should know the employee's performance well. Record the results carefully and give employees consequently selected for redundancy opportunity to appeal against their own marking. You should not allow them to see the marks of other employees.
