Any Answers answered: Discipline for prolonged sickness
——————————————————-
Q – We have a member of staff that has been off since 26
October. They had originally said they had been signed off by
their doctor until 10 November – we haven’t received any
supporting documents. Where do we stand with dismissing this
employee if they continue to fail to follow procedures?

Stu Emerson
———–

A – Write to the employee enclosing a copy of their contract and
policy highlighting where it states their responsibilities when
sick. You need to ask the employee to get in touch and give a
deadline date for action. Alternatively you could do a home
visit to find out what is going on – contact the employee first
to warn them. If this happens take notes of your meeting.
If the employee does not cooperate and you have heard nothing by
the New Year you should write to them to advise that you are
instigating the disciplinary procedure (send a copy of the
policy with the letter).
