New moves to challenge age discrimination at work

pp_default1

The government has launched a new website to challenge age discrimination. Age Positive offers guidance, case studies, legal information and links to “champion” companies who are promoting age diversity.

After negotiation with the EC, the UK has permitted to frame its own legislation against age discrimination in employment, by 2006. This new website aims to prepare businesses and individuals for compliance. Several unsuccessful attempts have been made in recent years to introduce legislation in the UK. The government has introduced a voluntary code of practice to combat age discrimination in business, and today’s announcement reviewed some of the results: “Since the Code was launched, the number of companies with written employment policies on age discrimination has also increased from 26 per cent to 33 per cent. But we must not be complacent because there is still much to do.”

The Campaign Against Age Discrimination in Employment can provide more resources on this subject.
