A poll of more than 2,000 people, by independent researchers BMRB for anti-tobacco campaigners, Ash found that 85% were against smoking at work.
11% of people said smoking was freely allowed in all areas of their workplace. This would equate to more than three million people across the UK. According to the survey, almost two-thirds of current smokers agreed in principle with workplace restrictions on smoking.
The results were released today to mark the second anniversary of the government being given formal advice from its own health and safety experts to control passive smoking at work.
