Increasingly, Global 2000 companies are creating an internal role to facilitate responsiveness to HR needs within their IT organisations, according to META Group.

The HR/IT Program Manager is gaining importance and is highlighted in META Group’s 2004 IT Staffing and Compensation Guide, which contains hundreds of titles and specific job descriptions throughout IT organisations.

The role of the HR/IT manager, among other things, is to map skill sets to the inventory of projects in the IT portfolio and ensure that appropriate sourcing actions are being undertaken. Responsibilities of this position include directing the various HR programs within the IT organisation and offering human capital-related counsel for its various business units.

“The role of the IT human capital portfolio manager is becoming increasingly important within the IT organisation,” says Maria Schafer, author of the IT staffing guide. “With so many projects in any given corporate IT portfolio, business-unit leaders must ensure that they match the right talent with the right project, and quite often they must rely on the opinion and counsel of an HR professional familiar with the IT organisation’s needs.”
