Staff at BAE Systems bring teenagers to work

pp_default1

BAE Systems put its own twist on a national initiative to help youngsters make choices about their future careers by encouraging its employees to bring their teenagers to work for a day.

The event, held yesterday, was based around a campaign organised by the Girl Guides called Bring a Daughter to Work Day, but BAE Systems extended this opportunity to include boys.

Over 100 teenagers visited the Warton and Samlesbury sites and were given the opportunity to learn about BAE Systems as a workplace, tour the site and undertake practical activities.

“This is a popular opportunity for our employees…a number of local schools took part from across Lancashire,” said Debbie Stott, Communications Advisor at BAE Systems. “Hopefully this will whet their appetites, encouraging them to choose engineering as a career.”

Bob Boyce, a Production Supervisor who brought in his daughter Emma to the Warton site, said: “This is an ideal opportunity for my daughter to think about the future, what qualifications she wants to get and what she wants to achieve in life.”
