Women are more likely to be off sick than men, the Office of National Statistics’ Labour Force survey for winter 2005 reveals.
Of the people surveyed, 3.1% of the women employees and 2.4% of the men had been away from work sick for at least one day in the previous week. There was no difference in the absence rates of women with children and those without.
People living in outer London were more likely to be off sick than those in other parts of the country. People working in private sector organisations with less than 500 employees were less likely to be off sick than those working for larger private sector companies or the public sector.
