Pizza outlet shamed in ‘minus-payslip’ scandal

pp_default1

Young Hungarians working for franchises of Domino’s Pizzas are being exploited in what one Union has dubbed “modern day slavery”.

The story, exposed by The Mirror, claims that the workers are charged £500 for an old car to deliver the pizzas, £700 to insure their vehicles and £100 a fortnight for shabby and tired bedsits. The workers then spend months paying back their debts resulting in minus pay slips.

On top of this, the workers are then forced to ‘borrow’ from the employer to pay for basic living expenses including food and, before arriving, they pay a local fixer £180 for an introduction, resulting in mounting debts.

Domino Pizzas, who are investigating the allegations, is owned by multi-millionaire Surinder Kandola who also owns Global Pizzas and Sopranos Pizza. According to the report a dozen Hungarian workers were sacked after contacting the Transport and General Workers’ Union in Derby yesterday.
