The benefits of professionally accredited qualifications are being highlighted by the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), which has launched a ‘Get Serious’ campaign to tackle the issue.
CIM hopes the campaign will raise awareness of continuing professional development (CPD) among practitioners.
Ray Jones, head of communications at CIM, said: “CPD is becoming an increasingly essential need for marketing practitioners. If you look at professionals employed in fields like accounting, human resources and software programming, they are all aware of the need for constantly updating skills and keeping track of the latest industry developments.
“However, a significant proportion of marketers have yet to fully appreciate the importance of a professional qualification, not only for their own career development and personal earnings capability, but also for the organisations that employ them.
“The Get Serious campaign has been launched in order to bring home to UK marketers the need for raising the level of professional marketing standards.
“Qualifications are a proof to employers that marketers are serious and committed about their profession, and that professional marketing skills do make a difference to an organisation’s bottom-line.”
According to CIM’s latest Rewards Survey, there is a direct correlation between the level of professional qualification and salaries earned. Director-level marketers with CIM qualifications earn on average 8.5 per cent more then their non-qualified counterparts.
