The Disability Rights Commission (DRC) has published guidance on the disability equality duty which comes into force in December for all publicly funded organisations.
As well as general getting started guidance, it also includes advice for specific sectors, a quiz and the DRC’s position on single equality schemes which cover all three duties – race, which was introduced in 2001, disability and gender, which will be introduced in spring 2007.
Although the DRC accepts single equality schemes are useful, particularly in cases of multiple discrimination, it says that there are distinctive legal requirements for all three duties and therefore a single scheme may be ‘problematic’.
