£10m women in industry project

pp_default1

A £10 million project has been launched to persuade women to consider careers in male-dominated industries.

Up to 10,000 school leavers and women returning to work after a career break will have the chance to test out recruitment and career opportunities previously considered the preserve of men.

The two-year initiative is being spearheaded by five sector skills councils and forms part of the government’s action plan to implement the Women & Work Commission recommendations.

It includes: training for a new career; personal development programmes to help women progress to supervisory and managerial level, and also into self employment; mentoring schemes for female employees; and female-only bursaries for technical qualifications.
