Recently a disabled employee applied and was appointed for an internal promotion to another office that will involve him with more daily travel to work. Before starting in that role he is now asking as “a resonable adjustment” that he works a split week of 3 days in the office and 2 days at home as the extra travel time will exacerbate his condition. Our OH specialist basically agrees that extra tavel might make his condition worse.
As the job is office based and involves considerable interaction with his fellow colleages and contract files/ information that cannot leave the office for security reasons, we cannot see what work he can actually do at home and hence we have not agreed to that as yet.
As an alternative we have offered to provide him with a taxi to work (at our cost) so that he does not have to drive and suggested that he try that for an initial trail period. He is refusing out of hand and says we are not being reasonable! What can we do?
