I’d appreciate any advice on what extent our company has a duty of care to employees when the problem can’t easily be resolved.
We have had an increased number of sightings of mice (there’s definately more than one mouse) in the office during core working hours, as well as reports of mouse droppings on desks.
Pest control have been brought in and bait traps have been laid but have proved ineffective over the past 3 weeks. Despite continued complaints nothing further appears to have done to resolve the issue and now several employees I manage have said if it continues they will refuse to come to work.
I have tried to escalate the issue but it doesn’t seem to be taken seriously and if my employees refuse to come in I don’t want them to get into trouble as they are genuinely scared by the mice and one has to be constantly escorted everywhere and the other is often in floods of tears when they see a mouse.
Grateful for any advice as I’m at a loss what to do.
