I have noticed in the last few weeks a tendency for recruitment agency websites to request that applicants send a copy of their passport with a CV. The reason given is for purposes of identification. However I have a suspicion that this could be a way of weeding out an age group not desired by the recruiter.
my company has made all efforts to take out all requirement for dates of birth, education etc whereby selection is soley on competence and qualification for the post.
if a passport is required even before the shortlising process, I cannot see how this can be defended under the Employment Equality (Age) Regs unless one would have confidence that the persons shortlisting would not take the passport information into consideration – yeah right!
or am I being deeply cynical?
