I am doing some research into the “value” of competencies within organisations.


1) If you have introduced them, why?
2) If you have got rid of them, why?
3) If you are operating without them, never had them, never will, why?

And if anyone can point me in the direction of online research it’d be great! My research is hoping to challenge the need to have a competency framework and what that means in terms of development and people.

At the last CIPD in Harrogate, David Taylor (Naked Leader author) mentioned a book: something around Shooting the Monkey, which was about the myth of competencies. If anyone knows the actual title, please let me know!
