Hi, can you advise if we are ok to withhold a car allowance (listed seperately on payslip) when an employee is off sick on SSP.

The employee was employed on contract terms of receiving of company car, this was switched to a car allowance a good 18 months ago, but while the employee was on SMP leave we took advice and was advised that because the car allowance was not considered a benefit but part of the salary package that this can be withheld. And the employee understood this.

So does the same apply when an employee is only receiving SSP?
