Our MD has asked whether it’s legally permissible to use unpaid suspension as a disciplinary sanction against hourly-paid employees. I recall this being used around thirty years ago but am unsure as to its legitimacy now; I wonder if it would contravene a contractual commitment to a stipulated working week. Can anyone offer guidance?
