We have an employee who is underperforming . He has been with us 3 months and the Manager has been reviewing his progress on a monthly basis but now feels there has been no progress or improvement. The Manager has sat down with him and gone through how to do things, only to have to turn around and repeat himself several times when the task is completed incorrectly. The Manager has also had to take on some of his work to meet deadlines and has to continually ask if things are done, that things need to be done etc.
His letter of appointment states that should the company wish to terminate your employment, for reasons other than gross misconduct, you will be entitled to one week’s notice during your probationary period and then one month’s notice upon successful completion of the probationary period.
The Manager wants to give him a weeks notice and get rid but I am conscious of whether or not this is the right thing to do.
Can someone please advise of what the correct steps would be in this case to ensure remain compliant?
Thanks
