Hi,
I made a complaint for the third time in 2 months, about a colleague that I have to work with quite closely, being particularly hostile and rude to me. The last two times, was jointly with another colleague. First time, my direct line manager, hr manager, asked to wait and see if it blows over, the second time with concrete proof, was dealt by an informal indirect exercise at team/morale building, accompanied with apology to me personally and voluntarily from employee. The third time, hr manager was annoyed with us for putting in writing (ie – email) as she said it constituted a formal grievance, called us to discussion and promised me an informal discussion with colleague next week (arbitration in her words) as I insisted it was detrimental to performance. This was Tuesday, i was off Thursday and Friday and on return to work on Monday, on approaching hrm for work-related query, was told that I would be moved to another department for operational reasons and that that would be the end of other issue. Was told that no more discussion would be entertained on topic. Refused to then allow me audience for next two days, even for work-related queries, by which time I hadn’t slept or eaten, being in a high state of stress, feeling I was being victimised for bringing an issue forward. End of day Wednesday, broke down in front of administrator for HRM as i was trying to explain that may not be able to attend work.
Next day was asked to resign or be dismissed as in probationary period, for several reasons, all of which were misinterpretations on her part, or mistakes come about by poor direction from her and repaired immediately on her reproacjing me. Was told that decision had been made in advance in consultation with 3 other managers. Any efforts to beg, plead or ask for chances were refused outright. Was told I was ‘square peg in a round hole’ and did not ‘fit’ with rest of department. Allowed me no choice, but to resign in a few days time, to ‘save face’, and was offered it’d be kept quiet.
Next day found out that one of the managers was not aware at all, while discussing work with him, so approached him and another of the ‘consulted’ managers to apologise or ask for feedback as had been doing very very well at work until then.
On Monday, when one of these managers approached hrm to discuss topic, hrm dismissed me on the spot later that day, ‘for disobeying’ instructions to not speak with anyone (lie), that there was an uproar amongst staff due to my talking (lie) and some other random issue (again lie). Any efforts to beg, plead, ask for second chances or work notice period were refused. Was asked to clear my desk and was escorted out of building physically (not a company standard in behaviour at all).
Next day I called her to ask for something in writing to confirm day before’s events. Was sent letter of termination of employment, PILN given and reason ‘personal conduct as discussed’ with me.
I have 9 months continuous service and 3 and half months into my 6-month probationary period, of a permanent contract.
I believe I have been victimised and bullied? Also, colleagues in same team with similar contractual standing have had issues of conduct or otherwise addressed in informal or formal disciplinary procedures, but mine was 1st chance out (on no substantial reason), can that be classified as discrimination?
Apologies for long tale, but my head is swimming and I’m very very very upset, not helped by the fact that my colleagues keep sending messages saying they’re missing me and don’t know what has happened. I am not replying at the moment.
I have sent letter of appeal with minimal details.
Please help. 🙁
