A person I know has just been dismissed from his position after 5 weeks.
He was employed as a engineers “mate” (the engineer has also been dismissed for basically poor work performance)and given a separate contract of employment. The contract of employment does not state that if one or the other were to be dismissed then the other person would be dismissed as well.
He was called to a meeting with the engineer and all dialogue and questioning was directed at the engineer. He was not given an opportunity to ask why he was being dismissed, nor did he have a separate meeting. He has received a letter stating that he was dismissed and notifying him of his right of appeal (he has lodged his appeal).
Is anybody aware that this can/should happen when he has not done anything wrong and he has not even received any indication that his work was not satisfactory?
