one of our employees (A) reported having noticed a company van had a tax disc missing then saw the van tax disc in employee B’s car (B having been told 2 weeks previously by his manager not to bring the car on site until the tax disc was renewed)
having interviewed both employees and other managers, it appears that it is only A who has seen the van tax disc in B’s car (or is the only 1 to come forward)
A is absolutely adamant that the tax disc had the van registration number on it and B is absolutely denying any wrongdoing, although is not now using the car to come to work.
the manager and I are convinced B is telling porkies as B’s whole demeanour is distinctly shifty
Knowing that disciplinary issues depend upon the principle of the balance of probabilities, I am still undecided how to advise my manager
any thoughts on the situation?
