I have been put on Garden Leave at work. I handed in my notice on Friday, and then had a summons to meet HR who put me on Garden Leave. I had refused to give a reason for my notice, and I confirmed in my resignation letter that I would be instigating a grievance after my notice period had ended. The reason I wouldn’t start the grievance, is because if I did, I knew I would have 4 weeks of hell whilst working my notice!! The grievance is basically about work place bullying! My HR manager knew how unhappy I was and did try to help me but because I would not make it OFFICIAL could not help me. Now, the only confidential work I do is HR – letters confirming employment, contracts etc. And they have told me that due to the confidentiality of my job (!!) they have put me on garden leave. I do have a couple of questions tho. I don’t trust my employer. And I wouldn’t put it past them to try and stitch me up. I know I can’t go work for anyone else whilst on Garden Leave – even tho there is no clause in my contract about garden leave! Can they put me on a disciplinary whilst on garden leave?? I’m sorry to say that I worked for a company who put people on disciplinary for nothing!!! It was common practice to threaten! And – what happens if they try not to pay me my wages?
