I have a friend who works in the offices for a company. A few weeks ago during the hot weather they were informed by email that they were not allowed to wear sleeveless tops.

Last week during a very cold spell they were informed by email that they could no longer wear jumpers or cardigans and that if thet were cold they would have to wear a jacket.

Also they have been told that they are not allowed to eat at their desk but the only break they have is at lunch time.

Is the company allowed to do this.

It is a trade magazine company. The staff affected work in the offices and have minimal or no contact with any clients, in any case clients are usually market traders not professionals.

Is this legal are they able to just impose these strict dress codes, and do the staff have any rights that are being infringed?
