Hi

I am in the process of leaving my current employer. In september this year my employer sponsored me to study. I signed a small ‘sponsored study form’ this stiplulated that if you leave you are liable for fees etc. The information in this document is very very brief and vague.

Last week my manager spoke to me and told me that I was liable for the complete amount of money (£850). Now when speaking to the university they have not even taken a payment from the company and told me that the charge will be £222 (for one terms study) and wont be taken for some time.

Now the company has deducted this from my final salary and sent me my p45. There is no mention in my employment contract of deductions or anything like that.

Now my question is has the company acted illegally? I told the manager in an email that I object to the deduction and that I am seeking legal advice.I have also demanded a receipt for the deduction but he just shrugged his shoulders…very un-professional I thought.

On monday I will be going on the hunt for my november and december payslips as my manager has no idea where they are?!

Thanks for any advice
