…stay on or make way?

With news that at least 100,000 people are carrying on working (National Statistics), isn’t it about time corporations became more creative with their working practices?

For every ‘old’ worker who remains in situ, one ‘young’ worker is (presumably) denied a foot up the ladder.

There are many ‘older’ workers who resent having to put off retirement simply because of financial issues. So why not split the job between an experienced (part-time) worker, who can then mentor someone with less hands-on skills and knowledge.

To live a life that’s free of 9-5 Monday to Friday routine is a Lottery Dream – at least for me. But working part-time provides days for self, as well as renewing one’s value – and being able to pay those rising bills!

Unfortunately, the range of part-time opportunities available is still very limited with many positions being of low calibre and even lower interest.

And, despite the ageism law, it appears that ‘older’ workers are still finding it difficult to secure positions.

Where are all the forward-thinking organisations?
