Reimbursement of bank holidays missed due to sickness

I have an employee who is asking for ‘reimbursement’ of 3 Bank Holidays that occurred when they were off sick.

Do we have to give the employee the 3 days holiday?

And if we do, can we say we need them to be taken on separate occasions, due to manning levels?
