We have an employee who has been sick now for 4 weeks. It has emerged over the last week that he is more than likely stealing from the company, even though he is not working. Obviously his manager wants to sack him, but I have urged caution. The police are involved, but I believe we need to conduct our own investigation anyway, and act on our own findings through the disciplinary process. But he is still off sick- do we have to wait until he returns to work before acting. Any thoughts?
