Architect practice (12 employees) which has for years accepted students that are in between degree and post grad course, as the first part of their logged work experience working towards becoming a registered architect. (This is 7 years, in which 2 periods of a year of work experience is mandatory)

Previous custom & practice has been no guarantee of work, no paid holiday. Looks like this is no longer permissable and must be treated as a fixed term employee with equal rights. Can anyone advise?
