I have been asked for advice about speaking to an employee about their weight. Apart from genuine concerns about their health we also feel that the excessive weight is impacting on this employee’s performance. There are no attendance concerns and no known health issues at the current time, however the individual is reluctant to leave the work base and/or meet with new people/clients, which we believe may be attributable to the weight. Obviously at the moment we are working in the dark and wish to discuss these issues with the employee concerned, before making any assumptions. I was wondering if anyone has had any similar suggestions about how to start talking about this very sensitive topic and/or has any past experiences that they would share with me? Many thanks.
