An employee had been with us 6 months earlier this month. He has a 6-month probationary period in his contract of employment. There have been objectives set (though I only learned about their content today) I have had several pieces of negative feedback about his performance this week and literally yesterday I found him to be in serious breach of our expenses policy, but until I speak with him I will not know whether he’s been playing the system or has made a genuine mistake. My Directors are now asking whether we can terminate his employment with less than the 2 month standard one. I know there are other options here (including extending probationary period and the like) but could we terminate with a week’s notice, or a month as its 2 weeks over the probationary period or do we have to revert to the 2 months as per the contract and staff handbook?
