We have an employee that has recently been appointed as a Special Constable within the police. The role itself does not conflict with the employee’s normal working hours. They have however requested 4 days off for training. Do we have to honour this time off in the form of special leave with pay as we would if they were involved with the TA or the children’s panel? The position has nothing to do with their role in the company and while it would be classed as self development it is not work related.
