I was hoping someone could advise on the following situation one of my friends is in…

She worked in a well known supermarket and had no contract issued (this was requested on more than one occassion by my friend and they verbally promised to pass this to her but never did) and the issue has now arisen that the company has underpaid her in terms of her hourly rate. The disrepancy is small (50p per hour) yet she feels aggrieved that they made her a promise at interview of an hourly rate which they now have back tracked on.

She raised a grievance in writing and has been invited to a hearing. However in the letters the company has said that unless she can prove the rate was agreed (in writing) then she will not receive it. She obviously cannot prove this as they never supplied her with a contract.

Any advice / suggestions?!

Thanks
