I have a query on certified sickness absence.
My organisation operates a range of shifts, including part time working.
If a part time employee works one set day per week, and calls in as sick, that day is obviously classed as the first date of absence.
In this example, the employee works on a Monday only, totalling 7.5 hours, excluding lunch and rest breaks.
If the same individual is absent from work the next day they are due to work (i.e. the following Monday), this would be the eighth calendar day of absence, although only the second continuous working day of absence.
Are they required to obtain a medical certificate from their GP to cover this absence?
I know that this sounds confusing, but I have struggled to find any further information!
Grateful for any advice offered.
Paul
