Chatting to friends in the communities I work with I’m increasingly aware that staff who book annual leave are often contacted by their employers and sometimes required to respond to a work issue from home while on leave or are asked to come in to their office and carry out a work related issue – a classic situation where the mobile phone plays a big part here.
Can staff in this situation refuse to carry out work related requests from their managers while on leave or flexi leave? Does this (in principle) change the status of employee leave into something else, it suggests staff might be ‘on-call’ though their employment terms probably don’t suggest so.
