Whilst I appreciate there is no definitive answer, I would like opinions/thoughts please.
Our Contract of Employment currently contains an opt out of the Working Time Directive. Employees can, where available and on a voluntary basis, choose to do overtime and/or take work home to earn extra money.
Given that our standard working week is 39 hours, is there a maximum number of hours we should allow employees to work on overtime and/or working at home?
We have a dispute going on a present as those members of staff who do extra, like to do as much as possible. This does help us as a company out but we are also aware we have a duty of care to ensure people are not being over-worked.
My Operations Director has asked me to find out from an employment law solicitor what the maximum number of hours they would be comfortable to defend would be. I am however, not convinced anyone would be willing to put a figure on this.
Does anyone have any views or comments on this subject?
