IBM and BP are among those shortlisted in the ‘best large organisation’ category for the National Council for Work Experience‘s 2012 Awards, which are due to be held next month in London.
The British Red Cross and Cancer Research UK are likewise among the ‘best charity’ nominations, but the winners of all 13 categories will not be announced until Tuesday 20 March at Merchant Taylors’ Hall by the University of Liverpool‘s Dr Paul Redmond, one of the UK’s leading experts on graduate employability.
The Awards, which are now in their ninth year, are intended to recognise organisations from all sectors and of all sizes that provide exceptional student and graduate internships.
Mike Hill, chief executive of the Higher Education Careers Services Unit, which runs the NCWE, said: “The NCWE Awards have been more popular than ever this year, reflecting the central role work experience is playing in business today. We’ve had a fantastic response from students, which is a great reflection on the companies who are striving to offer high quality schemes.”
The NCWE received 50% more entries from companies, careers advisers and students this year, with the large business and law firm categories being particularly popular, he added.
This year’s sponsors include the Association of Graduate Recruiters, HR jobs board Changeboard, GlaxoSmithKline, Centrica, holiday booking website Holiday Extras, China Internships Study and Consulting Asia, outplacement services provider PlaceNet and Intel.
