Here's what we think 2014 will bring:
Skill needs become global
Forbes predicts that in 2014, key skills will become scarce and it will take people searching overseas to find them. Forbes goes onto say that you must expand sourcing to reach those on a global level, in order for you to attract the best talent from all over the globe.
Cloud technology
With cloud technology being built into more programs and with storage not being an issue for most cloud applications, cloud seems like a good place to keep important documents. BUT this means that files are potentially at risk to hackers. Once uploaded onto the cloud, who knows where this really goes and who has access to it. So if 2014 sees more programs using ‘the cloud’ then we need to boost security around this issue.
Worldwide IT spending will grow 5%
As third platform technologies are set to grow by 15% (Forbes) year after year, smartphones and tablets will lead the 2014 technology growth. This will account for 60% of total IT growth (Forbes). With more and more people developing apps for business and personal use thanks to Apple making it easier by providing templates, ensures Apple have a hand in any brilliant ideas that arise.
The Internet has a greater reach than television
For the first time ever, citizens in developed nations rely on the Internet more than any other medium for news coverage. Much of this change will be down to the improvements by social media, mobile technologies and heavily improved bandwidths, allowing more data to stream faster than currently possible (futuretimeline.net).
Tablet sales go sky-high
Tablet sales will continue to rise, while desktops and fixed keyboard notebook sales will continue to flat line (Guardian). Companies are becoming involved with the tablet generation as we saw Tesco release their tablet for £119 and reports show sales rocketed in the run up to Christmas. It is also rumoured that Apple are considering a larger tablet as many are being used for laptop and even television replacements.
What do you think will be the big technology trend for 2014?
