I attended an "at home" event with Duke Corporate Education the other evening. The speaker was Dr Sudanshu Palsule, author of "The Social Leader". A key theme of his talk was the idea that collaboration within and between individuals and enterprises will become a core competence in the 21st Century. This is assisted by social media which makes it possible to collaborate on a global scale, often with strangers.
The phenomenon called "Crowdfunding" is increasingly being used as a means of collaboration between disparate people who share nothing else in common other than a collective passion to make something new happen. This turns on its head conventional notions of the "forming, storming, norming, performing" cycle and other ideas in HR about mature teams.
I wrote an article for Sir Richard Branson about the phenomenon. To read the full article go to Virgin Entrepreneur.
