Before reading on, dig out your personal development plan – thanks.

What do you mean you don’t have one!?

Is it in the bottom drawer gathering dust?

Okay, I’m joking. But let me ask you this question:

"As a manager, why do you focus on everyone else’s development apart from your own?"

In organisations today, there are too many managers who do not have a personal development plan.

How well do you really understand yourself? Your motivations? Your values? Your standards?

In recent weeks, I have written about managerial styles, how people learn best and what their preferred way of thinking is.

But what is yours? Are you aware of whether you think in pictures, sounds or feelings? Do you know what you value the most in life? What are your attractions? What are your repulsions?

Remember, the place to start your own development plan is to really understand what will make a difference for you. To do this, first get to know yourself better!
