Employee Reward
Title: Employee Reward
Author: Michael Armstrong
Publisher: Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD)
ISBN: 0852929382
Price: £36.99
Reviewer: Sandra Beale

Employee Reward gives a good theoretical grounding in reward issues. I used it as part of my CIPD Diploma and the reward tutor sang the praises of Michael Armstrong. I am pleased to say I passed the exam first time.

The book gives good guidance on what reward is all about and the essential ingredients to make up a total reward package – financial and non-financial aspects.

All types of pay structure are discussed and I recently, successfully developed a broadbanded pay structure using the guidance in the book to bring it to life.

Aspects on pay in addition to basic pay are considered, such as performance, contribution and merit pay; evaluating the strengths and weaknesses of all types of scheme. Employee benefits are discussed as well as the important aspects of non-financial reward such as recognition and job satisfaction, linked to motivational theory.
