The British Safety Council plans to unveil its first manifesto for workplace health and safety next month to coincide with the launch of a broader European-wide awareness-raising campaign.
The Council will launch its ‘Working Well’ proposals at the House of Commons on Monday 23 April, which will focus on how to reduce risk, increase leadership in the area and boost worker engagement.
The document will also lay out the business benefits of introducing well-managed occupational health and safety procedures and the advantages of sharing knowledge in order to change behaviour.
The ultimate aim of the move is to prevent employees from being killed, injured or made ill through work activities. But the Council believes that legislation is not enough – instead learning how to manage risk more effectively is key, in its opinion.
The manifesto will form part of a wider campaign, which is due to be launched on Wednesday 18 April by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work entitled ‘Working Together for Risk Prevention’, which the Council supports.
