Corporate Provision of on-site Massage Services!

We are considering setting up on site massage facility across out UK offices.

Has anyone done this? If so please could you help us with the below questions:

How is this facility actually delivered to employees i.e. How does an employee ‘qualify’/take advantage of it?

From the companies perspective, is this an initiative that is worthwhile and beneficial? Why?

To what extent, if any, do you subsidise or fund this service?

Do you have any advice based on your own experience that we’d be wise to take into account?

  1. Yes, I’d recommend it!
    In my Company I arranged free taster sessions (15 minutes) during European Week of Health and Safety – held in the October half term hols! The tasters worked a treat and converted Directors and employees onto the benefits of massage and reflexology.

    There are some risk and safety issues associated with it so make sure the Massage Company is experienced and professional.

  2. Employee-paid on site massage
    My company has had an on-site masseuse for a number of years now. She comes in every 3-4 weeks on a Friday afternoon and uses one of our meeting rooms to do seated clothed back and shoulder massages.

    It is open to all employees, and they can book themselves an appointment via our self service HR system. Each session lasts 15 mins and the employee pays the masseuse directly. Appointments must be taken during scheduled break times (or an employee might take a shorter lunch break to allow for the massage later in the day). Only one slot can be booked per day, and no cancellations are accepted on the day.

    We see this as a good benefit for staff with no cost to the company – the only real requirement is the use of a quiet meeting room for one afternoon a month. Staff feel more relaxed after a session and value being able to make use of the masseuse during work hours.

    It’s a good idea to have this at the end of the week/day as people are so relaxed afterwards – getting back into their job for several hours can end up negating the benefits of the massage! Also sending out meeting requests for people’s calendars when they book, plus an email reminder to people on the day means less people forget their appointment (this can be automated using our system so is not too labour intensive).
