Get the most out of your visit to HR Software

CIPD

HR practitioners heading to the CIPD’s annual HR Software Show later this month will be looking to find plenty of practical technology-based solutions to help them both in their strategic and day-to-day work; read on to see top tips on how to make the most of your visit.

With over 70 leading software suppliers taking part, the event offers an opportunity to check out the latest innovations and get some first-hand information and advice.

The show demonstrates the link between people, performance and technology and how it can be harnessed to make a strategic difference within the organisation.

Suppliers of technology-based HR products and services are delivering increasingly sophisticated solutions, judging by the IT developments being showcased at this year’s event.

New launches and demonstrations will give visitors the chance to keep up to date on the latest developments. Exhibitors are showing how their industry is responding to the changing needs of HR professionals.

As well as plenty of on-stand activities and demonstrations, this year’s exhibition features the Learning Lab, a new feature with presentations from the Inland Revenue and the CIPD.

Payroll practitioners who are trying to get to grips with the latest online filing requirements from the Inland Revenue will be able to find out more about the process and put their questions to the Inland Revenue in 30-minute sessions running throughout the two days.

The CIPD will be alternating with the Inland Revenue in the Learning Lab to present the key findings of the CIPD People Management and Technology survey 2005, which will be launched at the HR Software Show. All visitors to the Lab will receive a free copy of the survey to take away.

The results of last year’s survey provided some useful insights into the technology concerns of today’s HR and development practitioners and the 2005 survey has been broadened in scope to include issues such as the use of intranets as tools for communicating HR information to employees.

This year’s exhibition demonstrates how technology is reaching into all aspects of the HR function, with suppliers providing products and services in areas including performance management, pensions administration, communications, absence management and job analysis.

With key suppliers under one roof, practitioners will be able to compare the different solutions on offer and find out how these can be tailored to their particular requirements. More in-depth examples will be presented in a series of demonstration rooms in the exhibition area.

Visual will be demonstrating how HR.net enables you to manage every aspect of your HR with one configurable, web-based application.

New exhibitor Longbridge International will demonstrate the application of its latest behavioural profiling tool Parallax, covering areas such as recruitment, coaching, team building and evaluation.

Computers In Personnel will be giving presentations of the latest version of Ciphr, its integrated software system and a new web-based time and expense recording package ExpenseOnDemand.

Recognising that technology has become an increasingly important element of an effective recruitment strategy, the CIPD has an area of the exhibition called the E-recruitment Zone, where specialist suppliers will be demonstrating their latest products and services in technology-driven recruitment management.

New launches range from candidate tracking tools to talent management software. While there are a variety of different tools and services being showcased, they all illustrate how web-based technology is being used to help streamline the recruitment process and provide more cost-effective solutions.

The importance of effectiveness partnership is evident, both between supplier and client and between internal stakeholders.

One of the findings from last year’s survey indicated that failures in the successful introduction of a HR Information System were often down to poor project planning and training and lack of an integrated approach between different departments.

So bringing the whole project team to the HR Software Show could streamline the process and help the suppliers to provide the right advice and guidance.

The event is also a valuable opportunity to network and share experience with fellow professionals.

A comprehensive free show guide is designed to help visitors make the most of their time at the show. As well as details on all the participating suppliers, coded product categories, Learning Lab, demo room timetables and editorial features will enable practitioners to home in on those exhibitors most relevant to their needs.

A dedicated area of the CIPD website will also help you plan your visit. Conference details, a searchable exhibitor database, practical advice on the event and online booking are available at www.cipd.co.uk/hrss
