Question: "I asked one of my employees who was going off on maternity leave whether or not she intended to return, but she told me it was none of my business. I need to know so that I can plan ahead. Help!"
HR Tip:
I’m afraid she is right! As far as you are concerned she will return on the due date unless she gives you adequate notice to return earlier. Underlying all this is that, whilst she may have strong views now about whether or not she will return, she may change her mind after the birth. Your best bet is to treat her well. If you do, she is more likely to let you know her intentions not too long after the birth.
